Patients’ Rights Advocacy
For a mental health hearing or appeal, a lawyer, along with a patient advocate or rights advisor can help during these difficult times. A patient advocate will essentially act as an intermediary between patients and health care providers. If patients are unable to communicate effectively, the patient advocate will be able to speak on their behalf. A rights advisor will help a patient understand what is happening if a situation arises in which their legal status changes. They can help with applications to the Consent and Capacity Board, obtain legal counsel and will inform patients of their rights and options in all circumstances. At AGS Law, we are here to help our clients navigate these situations, providing both practical and legal advice.
If you were hurt as a result of a car accident, you may be entitled to benefits that will assist you during your recovery period. The provincial regulation of benefits is controlled by the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule (SABS). These benefits are standardized among insurance companies. Regardless of fault, the SABS can provide compensation to those injured in a car accident, if you, your passengers or pedestrians are injured. Any person who suffers from psychological/mental distress as the result of an accident involving loved ones is also eligible. It is recommended that you report any accident injuries to your insurance company within 7 days of the incident. Your insurance company will then request that you complete an Application for Benefits Form (OCF-1 Form). That form must be completed and sent back within 30 days, or you will have to provide a reasonable explanation as to why it could not be completed in the standard timeframe. For information and help throughout this process, you can trust the legal team from AGS Law.
